Massive Workstation Power
As well as the unbelievable array of features and sounds on the Fantom G6, the new 24 track audio recording had to have a new input stage so Roland have given us the best. The combo TRS/XLR input provides high quality Mic or Line recording and even phantom power for those with condenser mics. In order for the Fantom G6 to do its job Roland have also added a mouse input which really helps with using the sequencer screen with drag and drop operation whilst the 'studio' mode allows amazing in-depth control of the internal sounds for your song, effects and even external control!
The new powerful sequencer on the Fantom G6 offers up 128 tracks of recording power with 24 tracks of audio. It is just like a having a full studio at your fingertips. Audio can be recorded stright in or imported in he blink of an eye. It can be moved about the screen, editied, copied, sent through effects and will even automatically change the tempo of the recorded audio without ruining the sound via automatic time stretching. It saves a lot of hassle and makes the Fantom G6 workstation basically one of, if not the most powerful workstation on the market.
ARX Expansion
The new Fantom G6 offers SuperNATURAL technology ARX expansion. The internal sounds on the Fantom G series are stunning as they are but the new ARX technology ofers something very new. The new ARX01 is a drum expansion board with a twist. V-Drum quality samples with on screen 3D control for everything from shell depth to mic positioning. You can watch the 3d represented graphic change as you make changes for the drum you are changing, say a deeper snare or tom. It is amazing!
The ARX02 offers the same sort of control but for electric piano sounds. The best electric pianos you have heard! The new ARX also goes a step further. The ARX cards have their own FX processing system! Yes, this allows them to leave the amazing array of FX available for your internal tracks and have more processing for the cards alone. Once again this improves the sequencing power of the mighty Fantom G6.
Our Verdict
The Fantom X6 was a powerful product with a superb sound and was in its own class with 8 tracks of audio. The new Fantom G6 offers the missing effects we need to make a track sound amazing, offers the control with even a USB mouse option to get around the features to create out tracks, USB storage and USB audio streaming for direct recording at CD quality, new controller section with sliders for instant mixing and control possibilities. Roland Have done it again. if I was to recommend a product I would have a Fantom G6 any day!
