Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang in Sonic Blue
THE CONCEPT
Nirvana's Kurt Cobain always said that the Fender Mustang was his favourite guitar. This is probably why he owned and trashed about a dozen of them! Kurt's guitar technician modified all of his Mustangs with a Jeff Beck Seymour Duncan Humbucker in the bridge position giving the sound a hotter tone with loads more gain.
The bridge itself was upgraded with a Gotoh Tune-o-matic, this replaced the original floating bridge and meant that the intonation of the guitar was much easier to maintain.
Seymour Duncan JB Jeff Beck Humbucker
This is the absolute archetype hot-rodded pick-up. This is quite simply the world's most popular humbucker so no wonder Kurt had one fitted to all of his Fender Mustangs. The output of the JB provides natural gain with sweet warm tones which are absolutely perfect for playing everything from Blues to Heavy-Metal.
